Andy Joe Houston, 79, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He was born November 30, 1946, in Long Beach, California, to Porter and Thelma Houston, and grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He spent most of his adult life in the Tulsa, Collinsville, and Owasso area, and moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, in his last few years to be near his son, Cody, and family.
Andy joined the United States Air Force on July 13, 1966, and served until April 10, 1970. Stationed in Taiwan during the Vietnam War, he worked in supply, supporting the aircraft that flew missions into Vietnam. He carried that service with him for the rest of his life. Andy loved his country and never missed a chance to show it — the flag flying, the colors worn, the pride worn plain on his sleeve and on his cap.
He spent the majority of his working life in sales, from cars to insurance, most recently with Lincoln Heritage. He had the kind of easy way with people that the work asks for, and he was good at it.
Andy loved music and was blessed with the gift to play it, keeping time as a percussionist. He was a collector and a hobbyist through and through — guns, cars, guitars, motorcycles, sports cards, and whatever else caught his interest along the way. He loved sports, and he had talent of his own — a fine bowler and a skilled fisherman. He was a devoted Oklahoma Sooners fan, loyal in the good seasons and the lean ones alike.
Above all, Andy loved his family. He was a giving man, and what he treasured most were the moments spent together — a table full of family, a meal shared, everybody talking at once. In his last few years he faced considerable health problems, and he fought them to the very end with the same stubbornness he brought to everything else.
He is survived by his son, Cody Houston and wife, Kim; his three grandsons, Lane Houston and wife, Andrea, Landon Houston, and Logan Houston; and his three great-grandchildren, Charli, Ollie, and Georgia Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Thelma Houston.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Okmulgee Cemetery, 2601 S. Wood Dr, Okmulgee, OK 74447. The eulogy will be delivered by Randall Vaughan.
