Aven Hearne, 91, passed away April 8 in Mineral Wells. Graveside service will be 2:00 Saturday, April 11 at Staggs Prairie Cemetery in Mineral Wells with a visitation April 10 from 6:00-8:00 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. He was born in Palo Pinto County on March 29, 1924, to Annie Kent and Noah Wesley Hearne. He had 2 brothers and 1 sister. He graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1942. In 1943 he was drafted into the US Army and did basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. From there he went to England and was involved in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach as part of Patton's army. He received both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war he came back to Mineral Wells. He married Dixie Graves in January, 1946, in Mineral Wells. Together they had 3 sons: Charles, Ronnie, and Darrell. They lived in Millsap over 35 years. For over 30 years he worked for Webb Overhead Door, first as an installer and later as a salesman. In 1988 he and Dixie retired to their home on Palo Pinto Lake. His passions were playing 42 and dominoes, hunting, fishing, watching grandkids play sports, and watching the Texas Rangers. Aven is survived by (1) his three sons: Charles and wife Sheryl of Graford, Ronnie and wife Darleen of Stephenville, and Darrell and Maricia of Granbury; (2) brother J.W. Hearne of Fort Worth, sister Esta Mae Southern of Mineral Wells, and brother Bruce Hearne of Haltom City; (3) six grandchildren: Tammy Maxey of Murphy, Dana Kemp of Chicago, Deitra Stroebel of Stephenville, Kevin Hearne of Cisco, Scott Hearne of Midland, and Mandi Joiner of Abilene (4) ten great-grandchildren; (5) several nieces and nephews; and (6) a host of friends in the Lone Camp community. He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie, his parents, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers family requests a donation be made to the Lone Camp Community Center, 1165 N. Wilson, Palo Pinto, TX 76484.
