Barbara Ann Davis

September 12, 1936 — November 18, 2023

Barbara Ann Davis passed away on November 18, 2023 at 87 years of age. She shortly followed her beloved husband Franklin (Frank) Davis after his passing exactly two weeks to the day on November 4, 2023.

Barbara was born on September 12, 1936 in Estherville, IA in her grandma’s house to her parents Eugene and Viviette Millslagle. Barbara spent her early years growing up in Iowa. She moved to Denver, CO in 1954 when she met the love of her life, Frank. Barbara and Frank welcomed the birth of their daughter, Kathleen Ann in July 1955. The family spent several years living between Colorado and Texas until the promise of a house and some acreage from Frank’s older brother helped them decide to make Millsap their permanent home in 1968. Barbara was a homemaker. She was employed at the Box Factory in Mineral Wells and later worked for MepCo/Electra until her retirement in the earlier 90’s.

Barbara was a member of the Millsap Garden Club for many years and she was also a member of the Thimbles and Thumbs quilting group. Barbara made many life long friends through her activities with both groups. Barbara also met her long time friend Jo Mitchell while working at MepCo/Electra. Barbara always considered Jo more like a sister than a friend.

Barbara loved her family with all her heart and poured all she could into them any chance she got. From baking for them or making hand-made clothes for them to having Sunday dinners every Sunday at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Barbara would tell you that there was nothing better than being a grandma, except maybe that being a great grandma and great-great grandma may have slightly beat that out. She loved spending time with all of her family and she coveted her nightly good night hugs from her dear Nathaniel.

Barbara enjoyed many hobbies such as sewing and quilting. She enjoyed baking and she loved her sweets. The family always joked that if something was too sweet to eat then we would give it to grandma because she was sure to love it.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank. Her parents, sister and brother in law, Donna and Don Prybil, brother Jimmy Millslagle and son in law Bernardo Ortiz.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Kathy Ortiz, bonus daughter Debbie Spurgeon and husband Rabbitt. Her grandchildren Elisa Reveles (John), Franco Ortiz (Jamie), bonus grandchildren Laura Diduch (Scott), Brenda Spurgeon, Robbie Spurgeon (Aimee), Chad and Leanna Davis. Her great grandchildren Brandon Inmon, Cole Inmon, Nathaniel Ortiz, Marc Reveles, Haley Davis, Scotty and Colby Diduch, Will and Jonathon Spurgeon and four great-great grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Barbara’s special friend, Jo Mitchell. The family cannot thank her enough for the friendship she shared with Barbara all these many years and especially the love and care she showed Barbara in the last few months before her passing. The family would also like to thank Alpa Omega Hospice for the loving care they provided for Barbara in her final days.

We are heartbroken at our loss of Barbara but rejoice in knowing she is healed and made whole again and she is together again with her beloved Frank.
