Betty Caywood

Betty Jo (Butler) Caywood was born in Harlingen, Texas on May 3, 1927 to Joseph R. Butler and Lena B. (Grayson) Butler. She met and married Robert Lee Caywood while attending Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. After their wedding on June 11, 1947, their first home was a one-room trailer which was pulled on weekends to small nearby churches where Robert would preach. In addition to their ministry in several Baptist Churches in Oklahoma, California and Texas, the couple were both full-time elementary teachers. Many young adults will remember Betty as their beloved kindergarten teacher in the Mineral Wells School District from her final years of teaching before retirement. Betty and Robert were blessed with five children; Nancy Lee (J. Michael Johnsondeceased), Robert Joe (Hollye L. Milliken), James Dean (Gloria Thorn), Shirley Ann (Mick Greenway), and Terry Glen (Sally M. Blair). In addition to these, Betty touched the lives of hundreds of children through her years as a Sunday School teacher. The Caywood family thanks all who cared for Betty as her health declined, especially those at Keeneland Nursing Home in Weatherford, Texas. Most importantly, we thank our family and friends for the many prayers spoken on her behalf. She died on January 22, 2019 and a memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Palo Pinto with a brief graveside following. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Baum-Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Memorial donations can be made in celebration of her life to either First Baptist Church, Palo Pinto or to Meals on Wheels, Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County.
