Betty Johnson Cook

July 22, 1934 — November 6, 2025

Mineral Wells

Betty Johnson Cook, 91, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, lovingly cared for by her daughter Jennifer and devoted caregivers. She was born on July 22, 1934, in Evergreen, Alabama, the oldest of Cecil ‘Jack’ Johnson and Jeanne King Johnson Ward. She lived a full and faithful life devoted to her family, her faith, and her community.

Betty was married for 42 years to the love of her life, Carlton Cook, who preceded her in death. As a dedicated military wife and homemaker, Betty’s life took her and her family around the world, from the Greek island of Crete to Naples, Italy to Moses Lake, Washington. They eventually settled in San Angelo, Texas, where they raised their two daughters, built lifelong friendships, and devoted much of their time and energy to the community of Immanuel Baptist Church. Carlton served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher while Betty sang in the choir, her high soprano voice echoing across the sanctuary. They later made their home in Mineral Wells, where Betty continued to share her generous spirit and steady faith with all who knew her.

A devoted Southern Baptist, Betty faithfully served in the office of nearly every church she attended, offering her time, organization, and heart to her church families. Her legacy of service and stewardship will long be remembered by those blessed to know her.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Cook of Coppell, TX and Carla Cook of Austin; her grandchildren, Hunter Thompson of San Marcos, TX and Ellie Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK; and many friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Carlton, and her sister, Carolyn Barton.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells, followed by graveside services at Woodland Park Cemetery.
