Charles Champion

Charles Steven Champion, 54, of Mineral Wells, TX passed away April 1, 2024 in Weatherford, TX after a lengthy hospital stay and battle with congestive heart failure and kidney failure due to complications of Diabetes.

Born August 25, 1969 in Mineral Wells, TX to Steve and Kathy Baugh Champion. He was raised by his grandparents Maurice and Jean Powell and cared for by his aunt, Maurie Powell after their passing. He lived in the same house his entire life. He graduated from Mineral Wells High School, receiving a standing ovation as he crossed the stage with his diploma.

Charles tried a few jobs but preferred to stay home in the company of his family and all the pets he cherished over the years. His favorite thing to do was meet people and make connections through conversation, listen to the police scanner to stay up on what was happening in the community and exploring around town.

Everyone he ever met was a good friend whether they knew it or not. He loved his family with all his heart and keeping in contact and giving updates on the other family members and his friends was done often.

He loved to laugh and be laughed with. His sense of humor kept us all laughing. His curiosity filled his mind with knowledge about many subjects and he liked to share it. His stories and laugh will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Charles loved to talk about the Jet he got to ride in at an airshow, fishing, target practice with guns and the three dogs he shared with his aunt, which always had him laughing and swearing. He loved to talk about his friends and their lives and many other subjects of interest. He had a big heart and smile for everyone he encountered. He was kind and rarely ever complained about life in general.

Charles was greeted in Heaven by his older sister Sarah Champion; mother Kathy Baugh Williams; father Steve Champion; grandparents Maurice and Jean Lewis Baugh Powell and Clarence and Letha Legget Bearden; aunts Jan Baugh Bunch and Merry Baugh Crounse Kasperek (Mike); nephew Parker Potts and some fur babies he cared for over the years.

He will be missed by his aunts Maurie Powell, Gail Powell Manous (Jim) and Ricki Tate; sisters Risa Kelling (Mike) and Kendra Williams Hayes (Bobby Thompson); brothers Vernon Champion and Steve Champion; uncle Bruce Bunch; nephews Jesse Hayes (Anjyla and kids), Dalton Potts (Lexi) and Brandon Kelling; nieces Megan Kelling and Chloe Lake; also his cousins and their families; Shane Bunch, Bill Crounse, Quincy Crounse, David Crounse, Marla Crounse Baker, Cy Manous and extended second and third cousins and their families. And of course, Suki, Maggie and Rosie the beloved dogs he loved and cared for daily.
