Charles Ray Garland

A life-long resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, Charles Ray Garland passed peacefully on August 11, 2026. He was born October 15, 1936, to Reece Taylor Garland and Loleta Garland (Langley). The youngest of two sons, Charles attended the Mineral Wells public school system, graduating from Mineral Wells High School in 1955. He was a letterman guard on the football team, serving as a team captain in 1954 and 1955. He briefly attended North Texas State before returning home and beginning a 5-year stint with Southern Airways Army Helicopter School in 1956. He was called to active duty in 1961 with the 49th Armed Division of Texas. He was honorably discharged in August 1962 and placed in the Army Reserve to complete his military obligation. In September 1962, he began a 32 year career with Can-Tex Industries in the Data Processing Department, later serving as the Director of Management Information Systems, retiring in 1996.

On August 16, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patsy Ruth Lee, in Mineral Wells. Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage, until her passing in May 2026. Together they raised two sons, Greg Garland and Chris Garland. Charles was very active in the boy's activities, coaching Little League baseball and always being present at their Junior High and High School sporting events. Additionally, he served on the board of North Rural Water Supply for several years.

He was preceded in death by his father Reece Garland, mother Loleta Deisher, son Chris Garland, and wife, Patsy Garland.

He will be remembered by immediate family, including son Greg Garland and wife, Michele of Lubbock; three granddaughters, Keely Coke (Eric) of Lubbock, Kelsy Hope (Jared) of Lubbock and Karly Garland of Dallas; four great-grandchildren, Corbin Hope, Lawson Hope, Palmer Hope and Elliot Hope all of Lubbock.

Charles will be lying in state on Saturday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Woodland Park Cemetery.
