Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charley Nielsen and Juanita Grace Rutherford; sisters, Darlene Louise Nielsen and Linda Mayo; and brother, Steve Nielsen.

Survivors include his son, Charlie Nielsen; one grandson, Gavin Brodie Neilsen; sister, Deborah and Carl Amburn; brother Larry and Freida Nielsen; nephews, Steven and Michelle Armstrong, Eric Armstrong, and Kevin Wright; numerous other nieces and nephews.
