Charlotte Louise Glidewell Fagan February 20, 1943 – May 30, 2025 (82 years)
Charlotte Louise Glidewell Fagan was born to Joe “Mac” Glidewell of Mineral Wells, Texas and Louise Harrington Argumaniz of Palo Pinto, Texas. She lived with her grandparents, Minnie Marie and John F. Harrington, on the Brazos River in Pleasant Valley, Palo Pinto, Texas, along with her brother, Joe “Michael” Glidewell.
While most Americans enjoyed modern conveniences, Charlotte and her brother lived by kerosene lanterns, sourced water from the Brazos River, and washed clothes on washboards. They were active members of First Baptist Pleasant Valley, where Charlotte played the piano and sang hymns. Although devout Baptists, Granny allowed them to sing and dance on Friday nights in their home.
Charlotte and her brother shared these stories with their children on the screened-in porch of the old rock house built by John F. Harrington. Charlotte painted a portrait of their rock barn, while her brother wrote poetry reflecting on God’s country.
Charlotte left home for college in Odessa, Texas, but returned to start her career with the U.S. Army at Fort Walters Helicopter Base in Mineral Wells, TX. She met Eric Van DeLaughter, and they married, serving as Federal Agents for the IRS while raising their three children.
Charlotte retired from the IRS after 26 years of service. Her children remember her strong work ethic, leaving the house at 5 a.m. in a black suit, and ensuring there was a hot meal every evening. She loved her Lord and Savior, serving Him all her life while singing hymns until the end. She was an amazing Christian mother and a force to be reckoned with. After retirement, Charlotte dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and extended family. She attended many football games, cheerleading practices, golf lessons, and family celebrations.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Harrington Argumaniz; father, Joe “Mac” Glidewell; brothers, Joe “Michael” Glidewell and Larry Glidewell; husband Michael Fagan. She leaves behind three children, Stacey Strickland (grandchildren Darrell Stewart, Kathleen Stewart, and Ashley Warton), Scott DeLaughter (wife Norma), and Susan Grawe (grandchildren Michael Davidson, Maddison Gietzen, Mitchell Grawe, and Mason Grawe), and many great-grandchildren. Sisters Sandra Glidewell Meyer, Serena Glidewell Wiggington, and Terry Glidewell; brother Weldon Glidewell, and many cousins.
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” ~ Proverbs 31:29-31
