Darleen Garrett

Darleen Garrett passed on April 30, 2024.  Darleen was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 30, 1939, although she spent her life in Mineral Wells.  She was salutatorian of the MWHS class of ’56.  She was a proud graduate of TCU with a B.A., M.A. in psychology, and was all but dissertation towards a Ph. D in History.  She was the first child psychologist for the Palo Pinto Special Education Coop for 7 years and taught at Weatherford College for 34 years.

She enjoyed travel, having travelled all over Mexico when she was younger and all over Europe when she was older.  She bought a condemned Victorian house with her husband, Morris Garrett, renovated it, and lived in it contentedly for 45 years.  She served on the boards of the Dunbar Neighborhood Council, local Boyce Ditto Library and as an election precinct judge for many years.  She loved to sing in her church choir and play bridge, when she was able.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Cox, son, Phil Garrett and wife Dionna, grandchildren, Amanda Williams, Tim Cox, Jr., Traci Rae Cox, Foster Garrett and bonus grandchild Monika White, great grandchildren, Shaely Cox, Caylyn Cox, Tori Williams, and Cole Williams, great great grandchild, Drako Taylor.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Morris Garrett and brother, Bob Robinson.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Chapel.
