Granbury

Donald Joe Eichler passed from this life to eternal rest on February 2nd, 2024 in Granbury, Texas at the age of 89.

Graveside services for Don will be Tuesday, February 6th, 2024 at 2 pm at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells Texas officiated by Rev. Dawne Phillips.

Don was born in Archer City, Texas on March 1, 1934 to Joseph Eichler and Virginia Thomas Eichler.  He attended Cullen Grimes and Mineral Wells High School. His first real job was working for Green Stoker at his car dealership. After high school he worked at Mineral Wells Motor Parts for Bernie Divers. He then bought J & J Auto Supply on North Oak.  They outgrew that location and moved to the location on Hubbard. While there he decided to go to night school in Fort Worth to get his real estate license and then his broker’s license.

Don had a successful real estate career under many company names from 1973 to 2017. He once owned the Century 21 office on the bottom floor of the Baker Hotel. He received the Realtor Emeritus Award in 2017 for being in the real estate business for 40 years.

He was a member of the Mineral Wells Jaycees, Mineral Wells Board Of Realtors, Greater Fort Worth Board of Realtors and the Granbury Board of Realtors.

Don opened Trophy Tackle in the 1970’s with his best friend Bob Murphy. He developed and built houses in the Brazos Wood Subdivision and he co-owned the local Texaco Wholesale Distributorship from 1981 to 1987.

Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. There wasn’t a lake he did not want to try but his favorite watering hole was Possum Kingdom Lake.  He had many deer head and stuffed bass trophies in his home.  His deer lease back in the day is now the present day Cliffs Resort at PK Lake.  He loved to go boating, waterskiing, and anything else you could do on the water.

He was a former president of the Brazos River Gun Club and helped form the Mineral Wells Restoration Group. He coached his son, Jerry, for many years in little league and helped with the youth group and taught Sunday school at First Baptist in Mineral Wells.

Don was a colorful character and loved to tell a good story. He was a very knowledgeable Palo Pinto County historian.  He loved the Remember When Facebook group and had a lot to add from his years of interest.  One of his proudest achievements was purchasing and building a home at Inspiration Point south of Mineral Wells.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Patricia Mahan of Springtown, brother Jerry Richard Eichler of Sherman and his beloved daughter Donna Jo Eichler Daughtrey and grandson Anthony Daughtrey.

Don is survived by his son Jerry Don (Brigitte) Eichler of Granbury, daughter Debra Eichler of Benbrook. 2 grandsons, Russell Eichler (Lizanne) and Coby Eichler (Kayla) and one great granddaughter Jules Eichler of Granbury.
