Eddy Carl Fryer

Longtime resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, Eddy Fryer passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, after a brave battle with an acute illness.

Eddy was born in Mineral Wells, Texas on June 17, 1952, to Eldred and Allene Fryer.  Eddy was the younger brother of Allen “Squeaky” Fryer.

The Fryer family grew up in Mineral Wells, being an active part of the community.  Eddy passionately played football, baseball, and basketball growing up.   He graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1970.

After high school Eddy worked in the trades as a machinist, electrician, and construction worker.  Eventually, Eddy made the decision to join the Army National Guard and enjoyed the structure of the military lifestyle.

Eddy’s father Eldred had been a lineman with Texas Power & Light during his adult life and was also the local volunteer fire chief.  Eddy grew up in the fire service and soon began to take an interest and get more involved alongside his father.

Eddy was eventually hired by the Mineral Wells Fire Department and sent to the Texas A&M Fire School Recruit Academy, currently known as TEEX.

Eddy spent 37 years in the fire service.  He worked for The Woodlands Fire Department, Mineral Wells Fire Department, and was one of the original developers/instructors of the Weatherford College Fire Academy.

While working for the Woodlands Fire Department, Eddy would meet the love of his life, Catherine.  Eddy and Catherine dated and were married on October 16, 1982.

Eddy was a proud father of his children Candace, Danielle, and Justin.  He was a loving and devoted husband to his loving wife Catherine.

Eddy devoted his life to helping others and he understood what it meant to be a firefighter.  He always used to say, “We don’t just ride around on pretty trucks.” By that, he meant there is much more to the fire service than what the public sees.   It’s a lifestyle, a passion, and Eddy Fryer embodied it.

Eddy was preceded in death by his parents Eldred and Allene, as well as his brother Allen.  Eddy was also preceded in death by his niece Jenny.

Eddy is survived by his wife Catherine and children Candace, Danielle, and Justin.  Eddy was survived by his nine grandchildren.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Jeff, Tracy, Deb, Barbee, and their families.
