Ruth Glover

August 9, 1921 — November 12, 2021

Edith Ruth Glover entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, November 12, 2021. She was born August 9, 1921, in Salesville, TX to William Benton Nicks and Edith Mae Cook Nicks. Ruth was the eldest of five children. In her 100 years, she witnessed many major events that affected her world, beginning with the Great Depression and World War II. She loved to tell stories about how she worked in the Brazos Restaurant at the famous Baker Hotel back in its heyday, when many celebrities of the day came to the hotel.

Ruth married William Carl Glover in Mineral Wells, where they both grew up, on September 5, 1939. They raised three children. They lived and worked in the Mineral Wells area until about 1948, when they moved to Levelland, TX. There, Ruth worked as a cashier at many of the grocery stores in Levelland, and she spent several years working for Shugart Studios. About 2 years after their youngest daughter graduated high school, Ruth’s husband Carl, an oil-field engineer for Amoco Petroleum, transferred to Aurora, CO. Ruth went to work there in retail at Aurora Mall. After Carl retired, they moved back and settled in Garner, TX, close to their hometown. Ruth and Carl celebrated 60 years of marriage, only 15 days before Carl passed away on September 20, 1999. Ruth bought a home in Grand Prairie and became a faithful member of Matthew Road Baptist Church. Ruth was well-known for her fierce love of family, her hard work ethic, her cooking and sewing, and her servant’s heart toward others. She loved Jesus most of all!

Ruth is survived by her three children, Bobbie Carliene Kuehler of Grand Prairie, TX, Ronnie Carl Glover and wife, Mary of Granbury, TX, and Reta Joyce McGrady and husband, Andy, also of Granbury. She was proud to be called “Nana,” “Great Nana,” and “Great Great Nana” by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all their friends too! Her surviving grandchildren are Karen Perkins and husband Jeff, Kathie Hays and husband Bryan, Brian Glover and wife Linda, Kimberly Rivera and husband Steve, and Kelley Rathi and husband Pavnesh. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Edith Nicks, her husband, Carl Glover, her siblings, Reta Glover, Adrian Nicks, Fadell Moore, Mary Cabaniss, and son, Billy Ray Wilson. Granddaughters, Karie Kathleen Winstead and Kristie Gay Kuehler also preceded her.

Ruth will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 20. Funeral services are as follows: Visitation is at 1 pm, the funeral at 2 pm, both at the Church of God, 2501 SE 14th Ave, Mineral Wells, TX. The graveside immediately follows at the family plot in the Old Willow Pond Cemetery. Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home is handling arrangements. We can only imagine her joy and happiness in the presence of her Lord and Savior, and in once again joining her husband, family and friends gone before.
