Edward Lee Steely, loving brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted dog parent, passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2025 at the age of 83 years young.
Ed was born January 28th, 1942 in Norman, Oklahoma to Edward Lee Steely, Sr. and Clara Mildred Bilyeu Steely. He and his older sister, JoAnn, grew up on the family farm in the ten-mile flats, Norman Oklahoma. He spent his days working hard hauling hay and fixing cars with his cousins.
Ed entered the Army Reserves in January of 1966, the 420th Engineer Brigade, and was honorably discharged December of 1971.
Ed started his retail career at the young age of 16 at TG&Y Dept. store in Norman, Oklahoma. He worked his way up from stock boy to Manager and then to Geral Manager of Mitchell's Dept. Store in Mineral Wells, TX by the time he was 30 yrs old. He was a business leader as well as a mentor in the community. After retiring from the retail industry, he shifted gears and worked as the General Sales Manager at 95.9 the Radio Ranch Mineral Wells, Texas.
Ed officially retired in approximately 2000 so he could devote more time to his favorite hobby cars. He enjoyed entering the local car shows and won numerous awards for his souped-up hot rods. He also enjoyed playing the guitar in his spare time.
Survivors include his sister JoAnn Wiggins of Norman, Oklahoma. Daughter, Desiree Michelle (Steely) Zabinsky and her husband Eric of Mineral Wells, TX. Grandchildren, Tiffany Leigh (Wakeman) Wilkerson and husband Shawn of Midland, TX. and Robert Michael Wakeman of Burleson, TX. Great-Grandson, Edward William Wilkerson of Midland, TX. and one loving poodle, Scooter Steely of Mineral Wells, TX. along with numerous cousins and friends.
At Ed's request, cremation has taken place and there are no services set at this time.
