On March 14th, 2026, our mother and friend, Erma Ann Muniz of Mineral Wells, TX passed away at the age of 72. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Her passing comes after an extended battle with cancer.
Erma was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 5th, 1953, to Emmit and Anita Muniz. Shortly thereafter, the family settled in Mineral Wells. During her younger years, Erma would hold court on the playground at school, making lifelong friends in the process. During the summer you could find Erma either selling Sno-Cones from her little stand or helping her mother at the family laundromat on South Oak. She learned the value of hard work at a young age and those lessons carried into her adult life.
Erma spent most of her career working for American Airlines in the Admirals Club. She met so many people from all over the world, and some were famous. Many of those people remain friends to this day. Working at American Airlines sparked a passion in Erma for traveling. Her favorite destinations were Key West, Florida, the Caribbean, and of course Boston. No matter where Erma traveled, her heart was always in Mineral Wells. Boston became home for many years, and she always loved to tell stories about her friends, colleagues, and customers from Boston and the adventures that they shared.
After retiring in 2010, Erma came home to Mineral Wells to take care of her father. She worked at various places in town including H&R Block and at H.E.B. She loved the customers that she interacted with and would talk about them all the time. When Erma wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with friends, bowling with her teammates, or playing Mah Jong with anyone who wanted to play.
Erma is survived by her daughter Penny Perez-James (Josh James) of Las Vegas, her son Donny Perez (Rebecca Wallace-Perez) of Mineral Wells, her grandson and pride and joy Gage Waugh-Perez of Mineral Wells, and the father of her children, Gilbert Perez of Arlington.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Emmit and Anita Muniz, and her younger brother, Dierro Muniz.
The family would like to thank everyone that helped to take care of Erma during this difficult time. A special thank you to all her friends and family that came to visit, called to check in, or sent a message.
