Fredrick "Crockett" Grimes

September 30, 1939 — February 21, 2021

Fredrick “Crockett” Grimes was born on September 30, 1939 in Mineral Wells, Texas and passed on February 21, 2021.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Staggs Prairie Cemetery.

Crockett grew up in Mineral Wells and graduated from MWHS in 1958.  He was a stellar athlete, excelling in football and track.  Crockett won the Texas State Championship in High Jump and was a proud member of the MWHS Hall of Fame.

After a work career at Cantex and Devon Energy, Crockett retired to pursue his lifetime passions of hunting, fishing, steer roping and travelling with his wife, Shirley. 

Crockett married Shirley on June 1, 1960 and they were constant loving companions, with Shirley of course being the “The Boss” until her death August 27, 2020.

Crockett and Shirley were proud parents of their two children, Fred and Connie.  Crockett was always there for them and they will remember him as a caring, strong, and protective father.

Crockett was a member of the Salesville Baptist Church.

Crockett was preceded in by death by his father, Fred Grimes, Mother, Pauline Wilson Grimes, Wife, Shirley Grimes, and Brothers, Cullen Grimes, Billy Dempsey and Robin “Bobby” Dempsey.

Crockett is survived by his children, Fred Grimes and wife Dorothy Grimes, Connie Grimes Gault and husband George Gault; brother, Toney Dempsey; great-granddaughter, Briana Watkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
