With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Glen Michael (Mike) O’Bannon — known to us as Dad, Papaw, Brother, and Uncle Mike.
Mike was truly one of a kind. He had the gentlest soul and the most generous heart. Always ready to help, he would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need. Mike loved storytelling, cracking jokes, and lighting up every room with his laughter and love. He poured everything he had into his family and friends. The world is a little less bright without him.
Born on September 25, 1953, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Donald and Myra O’Bannon, Mike grew up in Brazos, Texas, surrounded by a large and loving family. He met and married the love of his life, Marilyn, and together they raised their son, Chris. Mike worked as a maintenance technician, where he applied his sharp skills, work ethic, and humor every day. He was the kind of person who could fix anything — and often did, with a smile and a story to go along with it.
Mike is survived by his son, Christopher Bell, and wife Shannon; his loving granddaughters, Desiree Bell and partner Jonathon, Autumn Bell and partner Nick Cedillo, and Brooke Bell; and his very special great-grandson, Cassian Cedillo. He is also survived by his brothers, Neal O’Bannon and Buddy O’Bannon; sister, Debra Sims and husband Tommy (and his band); sister, Regina James and husband Jesse; sister-in-law, Kathleen Rice and her daughter, Shawndra Dix; sister-in-law, Emmalie West; sister-in-law, Betty Boatman; and brother-in-law, Sonny Farr.
Mike had many nephews and nieces who loved him dearly. Known affectionately as “Uncle Mike,” he played a meaningful role in their lives. He is also remembered by his special friends that he considered family, Virginia and Harvey.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Marilyn O’Bannon. Their bond was unbreakable, and even 11 years after her passing, Mike continued to send her daily texts — a simple but profound testament to their love. Knowing they are reunited brings comfort to all who loved them.
He is also preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Myra O’Bannon; brothers Eddie O’Bannon and Darrell Boatman; sister Sherry Farr; and sister-in-law Rose O’Bannon.
Mike spent the last few months of his life sharing stories and laughs with his brother, Neal, at the almost-famous, O’Bannon’s Irish Pub. Those moments of brotherhood filled his days to the end. Thank you, Neal, for making the rest of his time here so special.
A celebration of Mike’s life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
