Imogene (Jean) Day Harrington

Imogene (Jean) Day Harrington passed away May 17, 2026 at home surrounded by her devoted family.

Jean was born September 7, 1928 in Moyers, Oklahoma. From a very young age, Jean started her career working alongside her parents, A.W. and Stella Day at the Southside Grocery Store. Jean graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1946 and later graduated from secretarial school. Her first real job was at the Baker Hotel Radio Station as a bookkeeper. Jean went on to work at Fort Wolters as a Financial Officer, the State of Texas Welfare Department, earned her Real Estate License, and retired as a Federal Accountant from General Services Administration.

She married the love of her life, Jack Harrington October 9, 1948 at the Fairview Baptist Church parsonage. They were married for 60 years before his death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents, Authur William and Stella Day, and by her in-laws, Joseph and Mary Harrington.

Jean loved giving back and being active in her community. She volunteered with the Palo Pinto General Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years; clocking over 10,000 hours. She served as the president of the PPGH Auxiliary, was founder of the PPGH Fashion Show, and head of fundraising for the Auxiliary for several years. She was also a member of the Zonta Club where she served on the Board of Directors, she delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Jean and Jack were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. Jean was very active with her Sunday School Class, and was on the Bereavement committee for many years. Jean will be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord.

Jean and Jack enjoyed square dancing with the Palo Pinto Promenaders, and Nortex Square and Round Dance Association where they held various offices and were in charge of many events for many years. They were antique dealers for over 10 years and enjoyed going to sales and auctions.

Survivors include her devoted daughters, Tina Jackson and Jackie Harrington; devoted granddaughter, Rebecca Franklin and husband Tony; great-grandchildren, Nova and Cooper Franklin; and sister-in-law, Freddie Harrington.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, aids, and Chaplain of St Gabriel’s Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and great care of their sweet mother in her final days.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, TX at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodland Park Cemetery.
