Ira Worthan

Worthan, Ira James, 76 of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away into eternal life at rest and in peace with excellent comfort care at Palo Pinto General Hospital on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, with his wife of 39 1/2 years Sandra Gill Worthan and two nurses by his side.

Ira was born October 28,1946 to Elzie Olen Worthan and Ruby Ellen Minchew in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas. He was raised in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas. Ira graduated high school in 1966, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1967 and after basic training went to Vietnam and was in Country for 18 months abroad a spy ship. He left the Navy in 1970 and in January 1976 reentered and served proudly and honorably for a total of 22 years.  He retired in April 1994 from Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba, Puerto Rico BMCS (sw). He obtained the rank of Senior Chief prior retiring.

Ira was preceded by his parents Elzie in 1967 and Ruby in 2013; his brothers Jerry Len in 1957 at age 9 and Don in 2016; his mother in law and father in law; two sisters in law; and two brothers in law.

Survivors include his wife of 39 1/2 years, Sandra Gill Worthan; blended family of 5 children in birth order: Tracy Rauser her partner (Jeff) of Lodi, California and her 4 children; Deanna Strunk of California and her 2 children; Sheri Rodriguez of San Diego, Calif and her 7 children; Steven James Worthan and his daughter of North Carolina; our daughter, Jamie Worthan Thomas and partner (Darren) and her 3 children. He is also by sister and brother in law, Susan and Floyd Wolverton of Westminster, Colorado.   

Pending arrival of family, no services have yet been announced.  Under the direction of Baum Carlock Baumgarten in Mineral Wells, Texas.
