Jerri Devenport (Strain), 34, was called home to the Lord on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer. She touched so many lives while she was here and left an imprint on this world that will never be forgotten.
Jerri was born on May 8th, 1990, in Mineral Wells to Jerry Dale and Nancy Kay Strain (Colwell). She graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 2008 and over the next several years developed and pursued a career in accounting, working the last 5 years at Genesys Aerosystems in Mineral Wells. During that time, she met and married her husband, JC Devenport, in 2014. JC and Jerri would then go on to have 2 amazing children, Kyli Kay and Kooper Dale.
Jerri loved playing golf and going dancing with her husband, as well as bowling with her mother, Nancy, and sister, Kelly. Above all else, Jerri was extremely passionate about anything having to do with her children. Whether that was watching Kyli’s latest dance recital, helping Kooper put together a puzzle, or just the three of them snuggled up on the couch to watch a movie, it didn’t matter. Her children were her happy place, and the reason she fought so hard through this battle.
Jerri is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Archie and Juanita Colwell, her uncles, Clyde Strain and Charles Colwell, and cousins, Keith and Nicolas Colwell.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 10 years, JC, their children, Kyli and Kooper, parents, Jerry Dale and Nancy Strain, sister, Kelly Rawlings and husband Mark, grandparents, Dale and Margaret Strain, Uncle, Tony Colwell, Great Aunt, Barbara Strain Burns, and cousin, Nathan Colwell, as well as many other family members, in-laws, and friends that will forever cherish her memory.
Jerri’s final wishes were that no one wear black to her service. She wanted her life to be celebrated, not mourned. Also, in lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, to continue the fight against childhood cancer. This was something she was deeply passionate about and donated to monthly for the last 10 years.
Visitation will be held from 6 PM - 8 PM on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells on Friday, August 30th, 2024 at 10 AM, with burial at Woodland Park Cemetery immediately following.
