Jerry Smith, 79, of Mineral Wells Texas, entered heaven on October 3, 2025.
He was born October 12, 1945 in Mineral Wells. He graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1965, where he was a standout football player known for his talent on the field and the many memorable stories that followed. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the military during the Vietnam conflict, proudly serving his country. Following his military service, Jerry pursued a career in construction, which allowed him to travel across the United States. When his children went to college he would point out at least 3 buildings in nearly every state that he helped build. For a time, he also delivered The Dallas Morning News, where he learned to navigate all kinds of weather and proudly considered himself a “driving expert” under any condition. Later, he worked as a mechanic at Durant’s Automotive, where he formed a lifelong friendship with Paul Durant, a companion with whom he would go on to see the world.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lola; his brothers John Tom, Carl, Clyde, Lloyd, Marvin, Buford, Larry, and Milton; and his sisters, Melinda and Billie.
He is survived by his children, Monica Silva, Bradley Smith, Brittany-Lee Smith, Justin Hernandez, and Rochelle Hernandez; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Also surviving are his sisters, Patricia Brown, Debbie Lack, Loretta Davis, and Sherry Robertson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
