Johnnie A. Abbott

Johnnie Abbott passed through Heaven's gate on May 4, 2026.

He was born on August 19, 1922, to Charlie and Hollie Abbott. Johnnie was raised on a farm in Mississippi County, Arkansas. In the early 1940s he drove his Ford model A to California, where he worked the midnight shift in a shipyard.

In 1946 he moved to Kermit, Texas, where he was employed as a pipe liner. He met Lorene Edwards, and they married on October 6, 1947. They followed the pipeline throughout Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky until early 1955, when Johnnie decided he needed to give up the transient life so the children wouldn't be changing schools every few months.

The owner of the pipeline company offered Johnnie a job on his horse ranch near Rising Star, Texas. He took it. Then he learned that it was a Shetland pony ranch; he found them to be very ornery. However, he stuck with it until early 1960, when he moved to a cattle ranch near Franklin, Texas.

In early 1961, he took a job on the Brazos Valley Ranch south of Mineral Wells, and the family moved there. He worked there until retirement in the early 1980s, when he moved into Mineral Wells.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Edwards Abbott and daughter, Carolyn Lambert.

Johnnie is survived by his son, Don Perry (Beverly) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter Johnna Sue Roach (Gary) of Azle, Texas, Jerry Abbott (Ruthmary) of Springfield, Missouri, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great children.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Dobbs Valley Cemetery.
