Joseph Hickey, born March 5, 1965 in Denton, TX, passed away peacefully at his home in Mineral Wells on July 10, 2025, aged sixty. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Eugine Hickey and Clara Ruth Williams (Garland). He lived with his mother until 1977, when she tragically died at the age of 44. He then moved to Mineral Wells to live with his father.
Joe was a happy child and had an adventurous spirit that carried him all over the United States and beyond, including hitchhiking to California, joining the Marines, playing drums in various rock and roll garage bands, riding motorcycles, sailing boats, and finding work all over Texas. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator, asked for by name. He painted, both houses and works of art, and remodeled a rundown barracks full of junk into a beautiful home. He loved to find deals at yard sales and always overpaid children and the elderly.
Joe's first marriage was to Brenda Scroggans (Faubian) where he helped raise her three children, Roy, Melissa, and Karri.
Joe found the love of his life in Romie J. West, and they were married in March 2021. Joe described her as the endless joy that fills his heart, and they remained married until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Romie J. West, her children, Hannah Olvera, and Maurice Olthoff, and her grandchildren Isabella Olvera, Vanessa Olvera, and Eli Fink; his sister, Dorothy Geer and her husband Jeff; his nephew Kevin Geer, niece Kendra Geer and her spouse Tabatha Geer, and their children Bowie and Kiernan. He also leaves behind a huge group of friends in Mineral Wells, across Texas, and throughout the U.S.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be determined. Friends will be notified via phone or social media when plans have been solidified.
