Juan Alberto Vargas

Juan Alberto Vargas, affectionately known as “Indio” by many throughout the local motorcycle community, passed away on July 27, 2026, at the age of 56. 

Born on November 14, 1969, in Durango, Durango, Mexico, Juan spent nearly his entire life in Mineral Wells, Texas. He graduated from Mineral Wells High School and built a life centered around family, friendship, and serving others. 

Juan worked as an automotive painter for more than twenty years, taking pride in his craftsmanship and the relationships he built along the way. Outside of work, he was happiest on a motorcycle or working on one. He was a proud member of several local motorcycle clubs over the years, including Keepers of the Lost, which he co-founded, and Tribal Sons. 

For many years, Juan also operated his own karate dojo at the Mineral Wells City Gym. Many of his students competed successfully in karate tournaments and earned black belts under his instruction. More importantly, he taught discipline, confidence, respect, and perseverance—lessons that stayed with his students long after they left the dojo. 

Those who knew Juan will remember him as a loyal friend who never hesitated to give his time, knowledge, or resources to help someone in need. He lived life fully and treasured the friendships he made throughout his journey. 

Juan is survived by his children, Donna Grace Vargas, Juan Diego Vargas, Emma Liegh Vargas and Sam Spinks, and Elysia Nicole Tanner and Brandon Cole Tanner, their son Gunner Cole Tanner and expected son Augustus James Tanner; his parents, Gonzalo and Catalina Vargas; his grandmother, Margarita Falcón; his brothers, Daniel Vargas and wife Kimberly, and Jose Vargas and wife Ruby; his sister, Julia Vargas and Stuart Watkins; and best friend, Margarito “Margo” Martinez, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Juan Vargas and Julia Vargas. 

A Funeral Mass celebrating Juan’s life will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 10 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2026 with the Rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. All who knew and loved Juan are welcome to attend.
