Lavell Roberts passed away peacefully at her home. She was born in Frederick, Oklahoma on September 28, 1921, the eldest child of Sidney Leon Sr. and Martha Agatha Roberts Hancock. Lavell attended grade school and high school at Fairview, Texas, near Burkburnett. She continued her education at Business School in Frederick, Oklahoma.

Lavell Hancock Roberts grew up during the Great Depression and was no stranger to hard work, an ethic that lasted throughout her lifetime. She married George Thomas Roberts Jr., March 2, 1942, in Wichita Falls. In 1946, she and her husband moved to Mineral Wells and purchased the White’s Auto Store in the downtown area, which later became Western Auto.

During Lavell’s lifetime, she truly had a life well lived and well loved. She took great pride and honor in the people and organizations in her community. Lavell took special interest in and was a member of the Art Club, Ceramic Art Club, Women’s Club and Zonta Club, and was a past president of the Zonta Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and in her younger days, was involved in Church activities, including teaching and working with the youth at the church. Serving her community was very important to her. Lavell especially enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and participating in the Senior Center. She and husband George square danced with the Ragtimers, and they danced on Friday nights with other square dancers at various rest homes in Mineral Wells. Lavell spent many past times painting the things she found most beautiful in this world. She especially enjoyed oil painting, china painting, cross stitch, and embroidery. Lavell loved sharing all of her artwork with her family and friends.

Lavell Hancock Roberts, also known as Grandmother, Mammaw, and Meemaw, spent countless hours caring for and loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in all of their lives until the very end. Lavell loved her family deeply, and her greatest joy was spending time with all of them baking, cooking, playing games, reading, telling stories, and teaching important life values. She was very much loved, and her bright spirit will be missed by all.

Survivors include her loving daughter and sons, Lynn Sumner and husband Stephen of Axtell, Gary Roberts of Dallas and Rodney Roberts and wife Cathy of Mineral Wells; grandchildren, Lisa Russell and husband Kirk Jordan, Brian Sumner and wife Susan, Marca Blocker and husband Allen, Kristi Hinze and husband Brian, Christopher Roberts and wife Ramsey, Chad Roberts and wife Alicia, and Brett Roberts and significant other Brittany Bechtold; great-grandchildren Weston Hinze, Waylon Hinze, Sydney Blocker, Russell Blocker, Nolyn Roberts, Indie Roberts, and London Roberts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
