Linda Nell DuBois

December 15, 1940 — August 11, 2024

Mineral Wells

Linda N. DuBois was born in Fort Worth, TX on 15 December 1940 to Luther L. Melton and Norvell (Harris) Melton, both of whom preceded her in death. Linda passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, on the evening of 11 August 2024 surrounded by family.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arland K. DuBois. She is survived by her children, Scott DeFisher, Caren Marcom (and her husband Bill), Lisa McClure (and her husband Red), and John DuBois (and his wife Nicole). She is also survived by her grandchildren Ben McLemore, Bruce McLemore, Kaylee Woods, Mackenzie Wells, Elliot Wood, Marissa Hutchins, Casey Ellis, and Jessica DuBois; and great grandchildren—Kopelynn Woods, Chloe Wood, Macie Wells, and Miles Wells. She is also survived by her sister Carla Walls (and her husband Jerry), niece Shana Winters, and nephew Wade Walls.

Linda was raised an ‘army brat’ and took pride in that distinction. She loved to talk about her adventures living and traveling overseas. She especially enjoyed talking about her time living and going to school in Germany.

From an early age, she developed a deep love of horses–a love that continued to grow and greatly influence her life. At various times over the years she raised horses, broke and trained horses, and competitively showed horses. She was also an entrepreneur and, in the 1980s, had a successful business called Pony Parties which gave her the opportunity to share her love of horses with a younger generation at children’s birthday parties. When Linda could no longer ride horses, she kept them as pets.

Linda was very proud of her 1984 1st place win in the Fort Worth Chisholm Trail Roundup Parade–where she hitched up two ponies to her covered wagon buckboard, dressed in authentic pioneer clothing, and stole the show. She carried on this winning tradition during the 1986 Pioneer Parade in Aledo, TX where she trotted away with another 1st place win for horse-drawn vehicle.

Linda loved to travel and, later in life, she would occasionally pack up her granddaughters and take them on road trips to places such as Turner Falls, OK and Galveston, TX where she and the girls encountered a hurricane—proving her Grammy skills outweighed her weather-forecasting skills. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister, Carla, to various destinations in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas.

A come-and-go potluck memorial will be held for Linda on Saturday, 24 August from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at Community Center Millsap located at 104 Fannin St. Millsap, TX 76066. This will be a time for family, friends, and acquaintances to gather, share a meal, and share our favorite Linda stories. Please join us.
