Margie Sue Elder

Margie Sue (Gray) Elder was born on July 31, 1947, and passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at her home in Mineral Wells.

Sue was born in Bellville, Texas to William (“Buddy”) and Clota Gray, and their family soon moved to Odessa, Texas, where she was raised. Sue graduated from Odessa High School and then attended Odessa College, where she met her husband Mike Elder of La Grande, Oregon. Mike and Sue moved around some for college and for the military and then settled in and raised their family in Odessa. Sue had two boys, Scott Elder of Mineral Wells, and Brian Elder of New York City. Sue graduated from University of Texas Permian Basin and then received her master’s in social work from University of Houston. She worked many years at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and then with Baylor, Scott and White in College Station and Brenham and lived in Bellville for many years, finding great friends and a church family at Bellville Methodist Church. She moved to Mineral Wells this past year to be closer to family and quickly found a new church home at First Christian Church.

Though her death was unexpected, her family and friends find comfort in her peaceful passing and her love of Christ.

Sue is survived by her brother, Jerry Gray and wife Brenda, her two sons, Scott Elder and wife Carol, and Brian Elder, as well as her two granddaughters, Mia and Allee Elder. She is preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Clota Gray, and her grandson, Zach Elder.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, at 10am at First Christian Church in Mineral Wells.
