Phil Meyers, who was born in Mineral Wells, passed on September 13, 2025, with his children at his side. He defied the odds and his behavior and lived to be ninety years old. He is the son of Frank and Buena Meyers.
He worked at his father's car dealership, drove a cattle truck, and operated a cedar posts yard. He officed at a formica table in the convenience store, adjacent to his post yard, where he visited with his customers, their customers, and the accumulation of a lifetime of friends and acquaintances.
A childhood friend recently told a story how much he appreciated Phil when he made Phil come with him to apologize to Norman Hines for breaking a light when he threw a rock when they were 8 years old. The friend said that his father made him. He said, "Phil would stand with you. I always appreciated that he stood with me when he didn't have to." That was 82 years ago.
Phil was jovial and good natured. He was genetically imbued, with as the family called it, the "Foster" wit. Foster being his mother's maiden name. He lived in a perpetual state of telling a joke. He was just plain out funny.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Cox; son, Phil Garrett and wife Dionna; grandchildren, Jamie Tate Miller, Amanda Williams, Tim Cox, Jr., Traci Rae Cox, and Foster Garrett; great grandchildren, Shaely Cox, Caylyn Cox, Tori Williams, and Cole Williams; and a great great grandchild, Drako Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Frank Meyers, Jr., son Jeff Meyers, daughter Kelly Meyers, and nephew Mark Meyers.
Phil will be lying in state at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Woodland Park Cemetery.
