Mary Cole

b. June 29, 1930

Mary Earl Compton Cole was born on June 29, 1930 and peacefully left this world on March 31, 2013. Times were hard when she entered this life, but Ira and Josie Allison Compton were filled with joy to welcome an only daughter to join a brother Billie Joe, and later on another brother, James Richard. Growing up in Lipan, Texas, she learned the values, discipline, and the love of a small, close-knit community. The life of a busy farm girl would teach her the skills and determination to faithfully attend high school and received her diploma. After graduation, Mary attended and graduated from Brandtly-Drawn College in Ft. Worth Texas, earning her degree as an executive secretary then working for the machinist union at general dynamics. She took odd jobs to pay for her school, working on skates at a local drive in, a hand model for a department store downtown and also a magician's assistant. She moved to Mineral Wells in 1959, and was co=owner of Cole's House of flowers for 30 years. She was active in the community and belonged to The Zonta Club, The Chamber of Commerce, The Ladies Club, The West Texas New Mexico Florist Association, The Texas Executive Florist Association, and the Holiday Hills Country Club. After retiring, Mary kept busy with neighbors and friends at the Crazy Hotel, often finding herself in charge of keeping extra room keys ( a job she didn't exactly volunteer for but was happy to do anyway). Mary found comfort and joy being with her surviving family, Paul Allison Cole and wife Aloise of Waco, Pamela Cole Granillo and dear friend Barbara Grapes, both of Mineral Wells and She was especially proud of her grandchilden, Mary Allison Cole of Twin Falls Idaho, Joseph Cole of Waco Texas, Heather Lesseter of Kentucky, and great grandson, Cole Ashton Pintaone of Kentucky, She is also survived by brother James Compton and wife Gaylene of San Antonio, Texas, and beloved cousin, Francis Wise of Stephenville. Her off the wall sense of humor, her kindness, and her bluebonnet eyes will be missed by all. She recently found out from another relative that Lady Godiva was our 32nd grandmother and the Compton family was in the royal court of King Henry the 8th. She thought that was hilarious and said that explained a lot even though she did not even like to wear a bathing suit. The family would like to thank you all for the many kind words and loving support, especially Solaris Hospice who treated her with dignity and grace, and cared for her as one of their own.
