Mauricio Velazquez Helguera, lovingly known as “Guicho,” was born on November 25, 1979, in Sombrerete, Zacatecas, and passed away on April 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was the youngest of eight children, raised in a close-knit family of four brothers and four sisters by his parents, Ignacio Velazquez Martinez and Maria Ines Helguera Zuniga. From an early age, Mauricio carried with him the values of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family.
In his early years, he worked at Acme Brick, where he developed a strong work ethic that would define his life. In his 30s, he became a derrickman for Energy Service Company ESCO, working tirelessly in the fields. In his 40s, he returned to his roots as a skilled brick and stone mason, taking great pride in his craft and the work of his hands.
Mauricio was a loving father to his four children—one son and three daughters—and a proud grandfather to his five grandkids. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Known to many as “Guicho,” he brought joy wherever he went. He loved to dance and was often the life of the party, lifting spirits with his energy, laughter, and presence. He will be remembered as a kind and loyal friend, a great listener, and a hardworking man who always showed up for the people he loved.
A Rosary will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Baum-Carlock-Bumgarner Funeral Home, with a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. All family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
Mauricio “Guicho” Velazquez Helguera will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
