Modena Verlene Camp Privitt Purefoy

May 17, 1925 — June 8, 2020

Modena Verlene Camp Privitt Purefoy passed away Monday, June 8, 2020. She was born the daughter of Lecil and Jewel Yancy Camp on May 17, 1925, in Natty Flat, Palo Pinto Co, Tx.

Modena married J. C. Privitt on August 10, 1939.  J.C. preceded her in death on June 18, 1979.  She married Lawrence W. Purefoy on June 8, 1984.  Lawrence preceded her in death on July 5, 2016.  Modena was a wonderful cook. She worked as a cook at Robert E. Lee Junior High School in Mineral Wells for 21 years.  She loved feeding all the kids at school and loved feeding her family and friends. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Always having many plants, including beautiful and colorful iris flowers, many of which were bulbs given to her by dear friends, Max and Billie Clark of Clark Gardens.  Her family always knew there would be plenty of fresh vegetables on the dinner table that she had skillfully grown in her garden, followed by a variety of delicious desserts and candies.  She always made everyone feel welcome in her home. Modena was a great seamstress and has made not only her own clothes but has clothed everyone else in the family.  All the grandchildren have an inside-out blanket that was made especially for each one when they were young to use when they came to Nana’s house for an overnight stay.  She also made prom dresses and other fancy attire for many girls through the years.

Modena was a member of Southside Church of Christ, Mineral Wells, Texas. Modena loved the Lord and taught Sunday morning Bible classes as well as Vacation Bible School classes for many years.  She was a faithful wife and servant, and a great example to all.

Modena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. C. Privitt; daughter, Carol Ann Privitt; and husband, Lawrence W. Purefoy.

She is survived by son, Galen Wayne Privitt and wife, Julie, of Abilene, Texas; son, Wendell Ray Privitt and wife, Jane, of Mineral Wells, Texas; daughter-in-law, Cathy Privitt, Searcy, Arkansas; step-daughter, Judy Dworsky and husband, Edmond, of Weatherford, Texas;  grandchildren, Heidi Renee’ Garza (Orlanda Pena), Shannon Leigh Gray (Brady), Elizabeth Anne Light (Logan), Angela D’Lynn Guise (Luther), Anthony Ray Privitt (Taylor), Galen Joseph Chad Privitt, Larry Dworsky (Nan), Karen Gage (Steve), Amy Ward and Heather Guest (Jason); great-grandchildren, Marisol Allyssa Privitt-Garza, Jonathan Garza, Alina Jane Gray, Bowie Gray, Ellis Light, Kendi Light, Mikaela Merae Privitt, Hudson Ray Privitt, Galen Joseph Christopher (J.C.)
