Norman Ray Smith

July 20, 1932 — November 5, 2021

Norman Ray Smith passed away peacefully November 5, 2021 in Baylor Scott and White Grapevine.

Norman was born July 20, 1932 in Plainview, Tx. He graduated high school at Tulia and spent 2 years at Tarlton State University, where he met his wife of 49 years, LaMartha Moss in 1952. They were married in Stephenville, Tx and left that day to join the family caravan and combine wheat fields from the Texas panhandle to the Canadian border.

In the mid-50’s while share cropping in Stephenville, Norman got his certificate in T.V. repair and moved to Mineral Wells to work at Fort Walters in the radio shop. Norman and LaMartha joined a partnership and ran Brazos Record. Eventually they bought out the partnership and became Brazos Records and TV.  They eventually added The Branding Iron Western Wear, Chaparral Realty, and a construction company, all located in one building at the corner of 13th Street and Hubbard, in Mineral Wells.

Norman was a 32nd degree mason at the Millsap Masonic Lodge, and an active member of the community.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Erma Smith; wives LaMartha Moss Smith and Jo Murphy-Smith; daughter Connie Lea; and granddaughter Nicole Lea. He is survived by wife Myra Smith; son Michael (Penny) Smith; granddaughter Alexis Smith; grandson Lee (Becca) Smith; 2 step-granddaughters; and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Mineral Wells Church of God with visitation starting 2 hours prior. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery.
