Ricky Lynn Smith

Ricky Lynn Smith, 68 years old, of Brock, TX joined the Lord on May 27, 2023. He was born on September 26, 1954 in Mineral Wells, TX to loving parents, Jo and Lynn Davis “L.D.” Smith. He was happiest when working outside on his chicken farm. He was a through and through country boy who had a passion for hunting and fishing. When he was younger, he enjoyed coon hunting with his Bluetick Coonhounds. Ricky was fondly known as Ricky Lynn, and he was an all-around natural athlete playing football and baseball in his younger years. He was especially passionate about baseball and instilled a love of the game in his children and grandchildren. Ricky always said that being a father was the best thing he ever did in life.

Ricky attended Mineral Wells High School. He was awarded a football scholarship by Tarleton State University. He earned a B.S. in Agricultural Business from Tarleton State University. Ricky began working in the oil fields as a teenager and was an oil and gas man throughout his professional career.  He was a history buff. He was known for his distinctive, gregarious, and hearty laugh. Ricky was a colorful character who lived life by his own rules until the end. He had a charming and jovial nature and knew how to spin a yarn. Ricky was a friend to all and always saw the best in people. He attended church at the First Church of the Nazarene in Mineral Wells ever since he was a small child and continued to attend throughout his life.

He is survived by his children, Miranda, Rowdy, and Shawnee Smith; his 6 grandchildren; his first wife and mother to his children, Martha Thomas; his 2ndwife, Patricia Smith, and his stepsons, Darrlle and B.J. Bullock; his current wife, Abby Smith, and his stepdaughter, Patricia Abarca.  He is survived by his mother, Jo Smith, and his brothers, Alan and Darrell Smith.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ricky Lynn’s life by attending the viewing on June 4th from 1 pm to 2 pm at the First Church of the Nazarene in Mineral Wells at 1005 S.E. 6th Ave.  The funeral will follow the viewing at 2 pm and will also be held at the Nazarene church. The internment will follow the funeral and will be held at Hill Cemetery which is located in Parker County off I-20 off the Gilbert Pit Rd. exit.
