Robert "Marshall" Downs

February 25, 1952 — June 7, 2023

Robert “Marshall” Downs, Jr. died June 7th, 2023 at his home in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Marshall was born February 25th, 1952 in Bath, Maine to Robert “Bob” and Elizabeth “Beth” Downs.  The family moved to Mineral Wells in the mid 1950’s.  Marshall spent his youth being part of the southwest group of kids who lived a carefree life revolving around baseball, pee wee football, swimming and roaming the neighborhood to have fun.  Many of those friendships and connections have lasted decades.

Marshall met Moneisa Mendoza in 1990 and spent the next 33 years as partners in life, always having fun and finding new adventures.  In 2005 they welcomed son Marshall “MacGregor” Downs.

A person’s life can be measured in many ways, age, occupation, and titles, but another measure is by the love of family and friends and Marshall was dearly loved. There was no greater show of love as in the past year when his children and friends rallied to offer encouragement and support. During his final weeks his three oldest children, Robert “Travis” Downs, Christopher Matthew “Matt” Downs and Jennifer (Downs) Pannell came to be with him full-time to offer love and care.

When Marshall became ill he said that he would meet the challenge with humor and grace and he did just that.  Marshall died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children.

A special thank you to the spouses of his children, Cheryl Downs and Todd Pimm who, without hesitation, supported their partners so they could be with their dad.  Additionally, his Father and Mother in-law, Gilberto and Ester Mendoza, offered tremendous support.

Marshall was predeceased by his parents, brother Kieth Downs, and grandson, Samuel Downs.

In addition to his wife and children Marshall is survived by his sister Dr. Deborah Downs-Miers and niece, Marilla MacGregor.  Grandchildren: Taylor Downs, Ashley Downs, Jacob Downs, Christopher Pannell, Georgia Downs, and Gillian Downs.

A family memorial will follow in early fall in his beloved Maine.
