Robert (Bubba) Paul Payne, 67, became a Silent Key on Sunday, February 13, 2022. He was a faithful friend who viewed his job as an ambassador for Jesus Christ and a servant to others.
Services will be held at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mineral Wells on Friday, February 18, at 2 p.m. Pastor Jake Grogan presiding. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Cemetery immediately after services, Pastor Guy Weathers presiding. Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Baum-Carlock-Funeral Home.
Bubba enjoyed operating his ham radio; racing in autocross; photographing six-man football; vacationing in Colorado; riding four-wheelers and motorcycles; hunting; playing 42; watching movies; picnicking and dining out. Driving to Wiseman House Chocolates for their dark chocolate wild women truffles and dark chocolate chipotle almonds was a favorite road trip.
He attended and graduated from Western Hills High School where his father was the shop teacher.
He retired from Tarrant County Appraisal District in December of 2020 as Sr. System Programmer and Technical Support Manager. He volunteered on the security team at Indian Creek Baptist Church and actively served in the Friends of Lancaster Ministry.
Bubba is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Furman Payne and Paula Elizabeth Payne, and his beloved dog, Saint.
He is survived by longtime girlfriend, Janet Vermillion; close friends, Bill and Leah Sessum, Luke and Erika Sessum, Jacob Sessum; Mark and Joyce Ford; Cris and Phyllis Alexander; Amanda and Jordon Hopp; Gary and Vicki Coupland; Tom and Lisa Haltom; Bryan Payne and family; Len Emery and son Mason Emery.
All who knew Bubba respected his stature, protective heart, and desire to live according to his Christian faith. His big bear hugs will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, friends ask that donations be made according to Bubba’s wishes to Indian Creek Baptist Church or the Friends of Lancaster Ministry in Fort Worth.
