Sherry Elaine Goodnough

Sherry Elaine Goodnough (Johns), born June 11, 1957, in Jackson, Michigan, to Omar Lee Johns and Vivian Ila Bliss, went home to be with our Father in Heaven on September 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Sherry was a beautiful soul who was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, daughter, and friend to many. She had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. Her smile was contagious, and she made friends wherever she went. She had a special kind of soul that drew people to her - you simply loved being around her.

Sherry worked at the Longhorn Bar & Grill for 20+ years, where she became known for making a mean burger. She later worked at a greenhouse in Weatherford until her health forced her to retire. She loved people and enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to read, put puzzles together, listen to music, sing along, and dance whenever a good song came on. It didn't matter what song was playing - if she heard music, there was a good chance she was singing and dancing along.

She was a woman who believed in her daughters and always pushed them to learn, grow, and do better. She wanted the best for them and encouraged them to become the women she knew they could be. She was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and loved watching them grow and become their own people. After losing her husband, Jim, she was grateful to have her son-in-law, Jason, step up to be there for her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Eugene James "Jim/Joker" Goodnough; her parents Omar and Vivian Johns; her brothers, Garry Johns, Marion "Steve" Johns, and Chuck Johns; her sisters, Marcia Belcher, Mona Stever, and Juanita Johns; and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughters, Genia Goodnough of Santo, Texas; Charolette (Jason) Brogdon of Mineral Wells, Texas; and Amie Kreidler of Stanfield, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Kody White and Ren White of Weatherford, Texas; Skyler Guzman of Eastland, Texas; Payton, Nevaeh, and Devon (Lorianna) Brogdon of Mineral Wells, Texas; Damon Baker, Nathaniel "Nate" Goodnough, and Tyler Melgar of Santo, Texas; sisters Kathy Kresky and Rhonda (Melvin) Spencer; brother Kevin Johns.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Beyond Faith Hospice for the love, care, and support they provided to our mother during the short time she was in their care. We are also deeply thankful to everyone who has reached out, prayed for our family, offered words of encouragement, and surrounded us with love during this difficult time. A special thank you goes to Freedom Fellowship of Mineral Wells for your constant check-ins, prayers, and the meals you so lovingly provided for our family. Those acts of kindness meant more than words can express.

Though we have lost such a huge part of our lives, we find comfort in knowing that Sherry is now resting in Heaven, free from pain and suffering. We will miss her contagious smile, her laughter, her singing and dancing, her stories, her strength, and simply having her here with us.

She left behind a lifetime of memories and a piece of her heart in everyone who knew and loved her. She was loved by many, and she will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Sherry's life will take place at a later date.
