Shirley Jean Seay

Shirley Jean Shelton Seay, age 90, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 27, with Shirley lying in state at Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, at the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. Interment will follow at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Shirley was born on June 1, 1935, in Avoca, Texas, the fifth of eight children born to Alton and Gladys Shelton. Growing up on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work early: picking cotton, milking cows, and gathering eggs. This strong work ethic carried throughout her life, evident in everything she undertook.

A gifted basketball player, Shirley once had the opportunity to play at the collegiate level but chose instead to marry the love of her life, Jimmy Seay, on September 18, 1953. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother.

As a grandmother, she created lasting family traditions: gatherings at the family farm, preparing special holiday meals, and decorating her home. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren hold dear the memories she helped create, especially her efforts to ensure that each holiday’s true spiritual meaning was treasured and understood.

Shirley remained active throughout her life in both her church and various civic organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Gladys Shelton; her sisters, Ileta Driskill and Nell Preston; and her brothers, Harold Shelton, Fred Shelton, and Bud Shelton.

She is survived by her sons Dan Seay (Lorraine) and Brad Seay (Brenda); grandchildren, Rance Seay (Ashley), Rachel Hunter (John), Breley Doyle (Trey), and Bridger Seay (Shelby); 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Cindy Raughton and Mattie Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Serenity Estates Assisted Living and its entire staff for their compassionate care, and to Treva Wright, Shirley’s dedicated caregiver over the past year and a half.
