Sylvia Jeanette Blackerby

Sylvia Blackerby went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2026. She was born to Junior and Louise Blackerby on September 19, 1952. 

She graduated from MWHS in 1971. Sylvia had a successful nursing career. She attended UT in Austin for LVN school and graduated with Bachelor of Science Degree (RN). She continued her education and almost completed her Masters. She took many courses, classes and trainings all throughout her career. She worked for Travis County and many hospitals in Austin as well as a School for the Blind. Sylvia went to Congress in Washington DC to present the first AIDS Clinic that she designed and created and it was approved. It was the model for all the AIDS clinics. Sylvia had many superb accomplishments in her nursing career. She helped a vast number of people. 

Sylvia loved her family, especially all her nieces and nephews. They all loved her back dearly. We have many precious memories together that include much laughter. She had a giving and loving heart. Sylvia will be missed by her family and friends. She will forever be in our hearts. 

Sylvia we will see you in Heaven laughing and showing off your karate moves! If there are any water slides in Heaven, stay off of them until we arrive! Thank you for all the memories. We love you. 

A strong women loves, forgives, walks away, lets go, tries again, perseveres…No matter what life throws at her. 

Survivors include: Sister Gail Blackerby Smith. Nieces and nephews Jeremy Hamscher (Heather), Dustin Hamscher (Sheena), Misti Windham (Corey). Great nieces and nephews Hayden Hamscher, Addisyn Hamscher Wood (Trey), Jaden and Brilee Windham, Owen Hamscher, Brennan, Chandler, Aubrie Freeze, Grace Benefield. Great great niece Landree Wood. Aunt Sheryl Sanders, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by parents Junior and Louise Blackerby, Bethann Brietencamp, aunts, uncles and friends.
