Thelma Irene Burge

February 19, 1922 — February 23, 2020

Thelma Irene Burge, 98, of Albany TX, was called home and embraced by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 23, 2020. She was born on February 19, 1922 in Quinlan, TX and was the daughter of James and Ethel Henrise, Jr.  She married Floyd Cecil Burge in 1938 and the two made Albany their home.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 28, at the Albany Cemetery.  The service will be directed by Baum-Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home with Chuck Shepphard officiating.

Thelma was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Albany TX where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served as the church secretary.  God was always first in her life and she loved Him with every ounce of her being.  She was a fierce prayer warrior for all of her family and friends.  Thelma was lovingly called Meme and anyone that knew her can attest to what an amazing cook and baker she was.  You never left Meme’s house hungry!  She also enjoyed spending time reading her bible, sewing, quilting, arts and crafts of any kind, and playing Yahtzee.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Ethel Henrise Jr., brother Paul William Henrise, husband Floyd Cecil Burge, and son Warren Cecil Burge.

Survivors include daughter-in-law Jo Lynn Burge and husband Rocky Hagood of Mineral Wells; grandchildren Tammy Austin and husband David of Mineral Wells, Traca Burge of Albany, Tee Jay Burge and wife Lindsay of Mineral Wells; great grandchildren Katelyn Connally and husband Colton, Brad Austin, Kassidy Austin, Cain Sanchez, KarLea Sanchez, Stacy Burge, Aiden Villarreal, Avri Burge and great-great grandson Rowan Connally.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to the ownership and staff at Serenity Estates. Their tremendous love, care, and devotion to Meme for the past two years has been overwhelming and will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Serenity Estates for the Tennant’s Activity Fund in memory of Thelma’s love for arts and crafts.  Donations may be mailed or given in person at 401 NW 4th St. Mineral Wells, TX 76067.
