Tommy Alan Blissitte

Tommy Alan Blissitte, 64, of Mineral Wells passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Services were held 2:00 pm Sunday, June 13th at First Baptist Church Mineral Wells. There was no visitation or graveside services.

Tommy was born on August 1, 1956 to Grace Josephine and Tommy Ralph Blissittte in Dallas, Texas. He lived in Lancaster until he graduated from Lancaster High School in 1974. After High School he was a reserve police officer for the City of Lancaster and received his EMT/Firefighting Certification and was a volunteer fireman with them from 1976-1978. In 1979 and 1980 he worked as a rough neck on an oil rig and then moved to Houston to work for the ambulance service for 2 years before moving to Mineral Wells. Tommy began working for the City of Mineral Wells in 1982 as a Firefighter/EMT, during that time he also worked for a HazMat Clean-Up Crew, Correction Corporation of America Pre-Parole Facility as a Transfer Officer, a Pizza Inn Delivery Guy, a bus driver and substitute for MWISD. While at Mineral Wells he held the positions of shift leader, captain, and interim chief at 2 different times and attended TCJC where he took many fire science classes and received multiple fire and instructor certifications. Tommy also had a very vital role in the Muscular Dystrophy Association and even held a position on their board. He retired in 2007 due to a knee replacement. The day he retired for the city he was immediately hired to work at the Palo Pinto County Jail as a Jailer and worked there until 2018. During that time, he also became a city councilman for Mineral Wells, then retired again from the County. After retirement he kept himself busy substituting at various schools.

Before meeting his wife, Karen Dawn Mann in 1987, he traveled to Senegal, Africa with the Texas Baptist Men to help build a meeting center, he also helped to build the ARK at PK. Karen and Tommy enjoyed traveling, going to antique malls to collect Fire Department memorabilia, and working with MDA. 11 years later the twins, Alicyn Grace and Alexandria Rose were born, they were his pride and joy and he enjoyed taking them on many excursions to ride trains, Disney World, Colorado, Maryland, Arkansas and many trips in Texas.

Tommy's pastimes were working on the Cumbres and Toltec Train Buildings in Colorado, finding bargains for people, woodworking and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Alicyn and Alexandria; brother, Jimmy Blissitte of Kaufman and wife Nancy; sister, JoAnn Sacharko of Lancaster and husband Steve; aunts, Julie Carnahan (JuJu) of Tyler, Mary Lou Hooker of Longview and Joyce Ann Sampson of Temple and husband Wayne; and Uncle, Jerry Blissitte of Longview; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
