Weldon Eugene Fletcher

August 1, 1938 — December 20, 2021

Weldon Eugene Fletcher passed quietly on 12/20/2021 at the age of 83 in Weatherford, Texas.  Services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 27, 2021 at Southside Church of Christ with William Eudy officiating.  Burial will be at Grantham Cemetery, Salesville, Texas. Visitation is from 1-2 PM at the church prior to the service.

 

Weldon was born on August 1, 1938 in Armstrong County, Texas to parents John and Elna (Davis) Fletcher.  He grew up in Crosby County, living on the family farm where he learned to grow cotton.  He attended school and graduated in 1956 from Crosbyton High School.  During his high school years he played all sports which led to his love of fast pitch softball.  After graduation he served in the US Army in Germany.

 

When he returned home from Germany, he lived and worked in Levelland where he met his future wife, Nancy Irene Davis.  They were married on August 1, 1964.  A short time later they moved to Crosby County (Wake) and began farming the family farm.  They were blessed with three children, Darren Wilson, Shannon Irene and Lee Franklin.  Years later they left the farm living in Crosbyton a short time and then moving to Snyder.  Upon retirement they moved to Mineral Wells to be centrally located to their children and attended Southside Church of Christ.

 

Weldon loved all sports.  He began playing in high school which spilled over into adulthood.  He played fast pitch softball for many years for two teams in Lubbock (Merchants and Sewells).  Once in Mineral Wells he turned to golf and made many steadfast friends at Holiday Hills County Club.

 

Weldon and Nancy were married 55 years at her death in 2019. 

 

He is survived by his three children, Darren Wilson Fletcher and wife Kris of Watauga, Texas, Shannon Irene Ford and husband Jerry of Santo, Texas and Lee Franklin Fletcher and wife Angela of Crandall, Texas.  Five Grandchildren: Kelsi Nichole Miller and husband Austin of Austin, Texas, Davis Wilson Fletcher and wife Leah of Arlington, Texas, Augustus (Gus) Fletcher of Dallas, Texas, Colin Henderson, of Crandall, Texas and Colby Henderson of Tarrant County, Texas.  Brothers: Billy John Fletcher and wife Vonda of Bothell, Washington, Ben Fletcher of Austin, Texas and sisters Audene Abraham and husband Allen of Victoria, Texas and Edna Pyle and husband Dwight of Springtown, Texas. 

 

Weldon is predeceased by his parents, wife, brother Dick Fletcher and sister Verna Green.

 

Pallbearers will be: Jerry Ray, Jerry Chapman, Miranda Williams, Stan Powell, Roger Wolf, George Hutton, T.D. Nix and Frank Foster.
