Willie James Sneed

Willie James Sneed, Sr. passed away October 23, 2025. He was born on December 22, 1957 in McGregor, Texas to Minnie Lou Sneed. Willie graduated from McGregor High School in 1977 where he was a highly decorated multisport athlete. McGregor Bulldogs, Willie Sneed, Manuel Boswell, Roman Brown, and Darrell Gee held the 2A UIL State 4x400 meter record for years with an exceptional time of 3:14.94. As Willie would say, “We were SMOKING!” Willie went on to play collegiate basketball at Ranger Junior College and Tarleton State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. He met the love of his life, Fredia, at Tarleton State University. Willie and Fredia got married in 1984 in Mineral Wells, Texas, beginning a lifelong journey together filled with love and adventure. In July 2025 Willie and Fredia celebrated 41 years of love. Willie and Fredia were blessed with two children, Brittany and Willie, Jr., who brought joy and pride to their lives.

After graduating from Tarleton State University, Willie selflessly took on the role of caregiver, driving his mother to MD Anderson for her cancer treatments and standing by her side with strength and compassion until her passing.

Willie dedicated 33 years of his career to working for Mineral Wells Independent School District, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

Willie was a devout man of faith. He has been a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1984. Willie served faithfully until his departure. At Bethel Baptist Church he served as the President of the Brotherhood, Financial Secretary, Church Janitor and Groundkeeper, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and Choir Member. Willie was the acting Treasurer and Corresponding Secretary and former Brotherhood President for the Progressive West Texas District Association.

Willie was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a referee and coached youth sports for years.

Willie was a devoted supporter of his family, always putting their needs first and providing love, guidance, and strength in everything he did. He never missed any of his family members' events, especially his grandchildren. Willie always looked forward to summer vacations, enjoying the chance to relax, travel, and spend quality time with his loved ones. Without a doubt, you could always find him on a jet ski in the middle of the ocean.

Willie leaves great memories cherished by his wife, Fredia Sneed, son Willie (Kayla) Sneed, Jr., daughter, Brittany (Joshua) Sneed Duckett, sister, Tammy (Robert) Roulhac, and brother Albert Sneed, Sr. Willie has seven grandchildren who were his entire world, Kenyon and Lincoln (mother, Annamarie), Kenzleigh, Jaiden, Jevan, Ariyah, and Knoa. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, Bethel Family, Progressive West Texas family, colleagues, a special aunt- Aunt Tweet, and many friends.

Willie is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Lou Sneed.
